Costco

Of the many good things about shopping at Costco - what I like the best is the check out lines. Their check out people are fast..quick..efficient..i’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes to check out and they are literally like robots..quite a stark contrast to the check out lines at the grocery store..where the person in front of you ALWAYS has to hold up the line..and then you curse yourself for choosing that line. Its always a demanding customer arguing about the price of something or a ‘in training’ check out person..Costco - none of that..its silken.

Bitter Sweet day in Cricket

India lost to Australia..I thought they would show a little more fight than they did…to be bowled out for under 200 in both innings was hugely disspointing….But to get to the real news! WEST INDIES beat South Africa in South Africa!!! After all these years, they finally win and that was a very very pleasant thing to see…As much as I am an Indian fan, I am a West Indian fan because I grew up in Trinidad and during those days they were the best team in the world. Hopefully, this is the start of something great for them!

2007 Bollywood Movie Reviews

Udit| Category: General | 0 Comments

I’ve been quite a movie buff lately. Caught up on all the 2007 bollywood action..Here is my take on some of the movies I watched..Not listed in any particular order..

Saawariya.. - Nice movie..very plastic feel to it..its blue all over..like an AMEX card..good songs..Ranbir acted well I thought..storyline was ok..2.5/5

Dhan Dhana Dan Goal - So so movie..Arshad Wasi showed a little acting skills…John Abraham showed he has a little football skills..other than that, nothing much to talk about..The title song was good…movie was extremely predictable..you wouldnt miss much if you skipped this one 2/5

Khoya Khoya Chand - hmm..can’t say too much since I didnt have the patience to sit through the entire film! I didnt quite get what was happening in the movie..it was beyond my intellectual powers. Soha Ali Khan looked pretty !

Dus Kahaniyaan - A very fresh concept! Enjoyed watching all the ‘kahaniyas’. Some of them were better than the others…a couple of them were simply outstanding. Almost everyone of the stories had a messege and I thought that was very interesting. Looking forward to a part 2 if there is one. A must watch! 4/5

Johnny Gadar - I had not even heard about this movie until my sis told me to watch it..A brilliant film…has it all..action, romance, suspense..a real indian thriller…slicky and stylish, I thought this was probably the most underrated movies of the year. If you havent heard about it, I dont blame you..but you must definitely go watch it. 4/5

Cheeni Kum - Mr Amitabh Bachan…what to tell you sir..? I am not sure what message you were trying to prove as a 64 year old character in the movie falling in love with a 34 year old character played by Tabu..beyond that, I thought the dialouges were the high point of this film. As an angry OLD man, the interactions between him and Tabu where she completely tames the bull was fascinating to watch..I would not completely bash this film because it was well made…not sure how realistic it is…but overall, not bad 3.5/5

The Namesake - Not a bollywood film, but thought I might as well include it here..Spectacular movie. Ms Tabu at it again, playing an NRI housewife. Irfan Khan was a master..this is realistic stuff..and really captured the trials that familes go through when living in a foreigh land..a must watch if you have missed this 4.5/5

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - Good acting by Abhishek and Preity. Songs were nice, especially the title song. Movie was slow at times..second half dragged on..1 time watch.. 2.75/5

Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag - Even though this movie flopped, I kind of liked it..Konkona Sen Sharma did a brilliant job. Movie has a message and is worth watching once atleast. 3/5

Aaja Nachle - Madhuri’s comeback film…She has an accent people..but that aside, I thought she acted really well. The story line is not made for commercial success, but the climax of the film with the musical was fantastic. Madhuri proved that there is no better dancer than her. 3.5/5

Om Shanti Om - Hyped beyond anyone’s imagination, this movie was sort of a letdown. A little predictable, but the experience of going to the theatre , standing in line for over an hour, watching a fight break out between 2 uncles made it all worth it. 3.25/5

Partner - Rip-off of Hitch..thought it was utter crap and non-sensical..not really worth watching 2/5

Heyy Babyy - Dry humor, I would be careful of wathing this movie with parents around. Embarrasing at times 1.5/5

Bhool Bhulaiya - so so movie..nothing great about it, but nothing to complain too much either..music is nice, story line was a little dragged, but overall ok.. 2.5/5

Jab we met - For me the best movie of 2007. Excellent story, great acting by both Shahid and Kareena. A laughter filled movie to the very end coupled with great songs…absolutely loved it! 5/5

Chak de India - Nice movie..for once SRK is not overacting ! A definite watch! 4/5

Bheja Fry - The second best movie of 2007 for me..Completely entertaining and unpredictable..this was a fantastic movie! 4.5/5

Namaste London - I liked this movie..actually saw it twice…Askhay Kumar acted like a true punjabi villager in love with a london ki mam. 4.25/5

last but not least - Aap Ka Surroor: The Moviee: The Real Luv Story - Mr Himesh Reshamiya’s acting debut..I have to admit, I watched the entire movie, but my reaction 15 minutes into the movie was WTF..how did this movie become a hit? ‘ HR’ can sing, no doubt about that, but he should stick to his singing..acting is bad..movie was crap and non-sensical..for me, the worst movie of 2007.. .5/5 (the only saving grace were the songs..they were actually good!)

A quote I came across

I came across this while traversing the web. Thought it was quite nice

A relationship is like a bird,
if you catch it tightly, it dies,
if you catch it loosely, it flies,
But if you catch it affectionately, it remains with you forever

Trini Music

I think this clip will say it all..grew up in trinidad listening to this music…the most amazing thing though is that these guys dont even know the language, yet they sing so well..truly AMAZING!

In this clip, the lively band - Dil E Nadan played their rendition of the song Musafir (originally from the Bollywood movie Parichay and originally sung by the marvelous Kishore Kumar).

Lead singer of Dil-E-Nadan: Raymond Ramnarine
